Scope Of work
- The stone face must be polished with layered cut outs in the centre of the sculpture.
- The back of the sculpture must be rugged and almost as it was in the mountain.
- There was a specific focus on the overall shape.
- The sculpture needed to have a base plate fixed to it with rods drilled up into the piece to assist in the fixing method on site.
Brief
This project was presented to us, initially as a 3D render, with dimensions. We developed the concept further with Obregon Studio and Alejandra prepared the final design for us, once we had sourced the right stone for the project.
This was to be an art feature piece, located in the SPA of the Ritz Carlton yacht.
The Challenges
This piece didn’t present many challenges, with one exception. Creating the curved rugged back presented somewhat of a challenge, as this required some physical hand chiselling.
The composition of the stone would not allow for too much hard chiselling, as it was a layered block. If we had chiselled too deep, we ran a risk of the block partially breaking away, resulting in a complete remake.
We worked with the designer and offered alternative shapes to facilitate the block composition and the result achieved met the client expectations.
